Fantasy dioramas have always been associated with 25 mm scale, even though the craft offers many possibilities in any scale. In our case we have chosen 90 mm.
The figures are all transformations of commercial kits:
- CENTAUR: I used the Ceremonial Studios Conan for the torso, arms and head, and resculpted the hair. The horse is of a military posture and size and I shortened the body’s length and width. The position of the legs was also transformed, and thus the muscles were resculpted, visibly increasing their size. The tail was also resculpted.
- WOUNDED WARRIOR: This figure also began with parts from Ceremonial Studios. Using the breastplate from the kit, I changed the legs, giving them the proper position, and did the same with the arms (all original figures were standing straight upright). The head is from Almond, with the hair resculpted. The hand that is kept high, the crossbow, and the quiver were all made for the occasion.
- DEAD WARRIOR: This begins with “The Executioner” figure by Almond. His head has been changed, and resculpted components include the head, arms, legs, and clothing, along with the belt and accessories. The shield is from Beneito and the sword from Andrea.
The fallen helmet is from Amati and the axe was made out of wood and aluminium.
PAINT.
The overall painting of the figures was done with an airbrush using Marabou’s Decoart series of paints and inks. The rest was done with Vallejo and Andrea Colours.
GROUNDWORK
The ground was made using Andrea Miniatures’ “Cedar” base, expanding it by using the same materials with which the original was made (natural stones, gravel, putty, sand, etc.). The kit includes the tree and the mushrooms, and photo-etched details helped to round out the scene.
